Gallery Exhibition "With my little eye"

Meet the Artist, Marcelle Seabourne: Saturday 7th March, 11.30am – 13.30pm, in the Exhibition/meeting room.

In Marcelle’s words, “I am a self-taught artist, having had little formal training, though I come from a family of painters, so painting and drawing have always been part of my life. My artistic knowledge has been enriched by courses on specific techniques, guidance from practitioners, innumerable visits to galleries and personal research. My skills and understanding were deepened further by many years of teaching art and running a busy art department. I work in a variety of media: pencil, charcoal, watercolour, acrylics, oils and clay. I am also currently enjoying exploring various hand-pulled printing techniques including drypoint and monoprinting. My work has two key strands, of equal importance. The first is representational, with a focus on landscape and nature, inspired both by the Lincolnshire countryside where I live, and by visits further afield. The second is purely abstract, looking to evoke a mood or atmosphere, though again starting points are often suggested by my surroundings. A recent example is a series of abstract monoprints based on coastal flooding; another set of prints representing the sound of bells derives from the moving poem 'In Memoriam' by local poet Alfred Lord Tennyson. I enjoy a challenge and welcome commissions. “
